Senior Engineer, Network Security

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Tennessee.

📋 Description

• Engage directly with end-users and vendors to evaluate, suggest, design, and implement network security solutions, firewall rules, and policies.

• Oversee Palo Alto, Cisco, and Fortinet security devices.

• Conduct regular assessments of the network to discover opportunities for enhancing security posture.

• Act as the Network Security lead on interdisciplinary project teams within IT and across various business lines.

• Take part in network security planning, design, and implementation initiatives.

• Serve as the escalation point for intricate network security and remote connectivity issues.

• Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to gather requirements, devise secure solutions, and communicate best practices.

• Offer expert knowledge on network security, firewalls, zero-trust architectures, and industry standards.

• Design and enforce firewall rules while upholding security policies and best practices.

• Configure and maintain firewalls, VPN, and IPSEC tunnel solutions.

• Set up and manage Palo Alto Prisma Access SASE for locations transitioning to SD-WAN.

• Work alongside the Cybersecurity team to identify and alleviate network security risks.

• Conduct periodic firewall reviews in alignment with company standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.

• Configure, deploy, and support VPN clients across Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, and Android platforms.

• Troubleshoot complex connectivity and performance challenges.

• Apply upgrades and system patches, perform maintenance, and enhance reliability and security posture.

• Develop, communicate, implement, and uphold network policies, standards, and procedures in collaboration with management.

• Automate network security operations utilizing Ansible, Python, PowerShell, and REST APIs.

• Manage sensitive and confidential information.

• Apply knowledge of healthcare regulatory and compliance standards, including HIPAA.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's or equivalent degree in computer science, cybersecurity, or a related IT field preferred.

• At least 6 years of experience as a Network Engineer or Network Security Engineer in a large-scale inter-network environment.

• Demonstrated experience in complex network support.

• PCNSE or other intermediate to advanced-level industry-recognized certifications are preferred.

• Experience in implementing and supporting Palo Alto Networks solutions.

• Additional experience with Cisco and Fortinet is desirable.

• Preferred experience with Google Cloud and Azure Cloud networks.

• Familiarity with OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, eBGP, and static routing.

• Ability to troubleshoot through protocol analysis and firewall log examination.

• Strong oral and written communication skills are essential.

• Capability to adhere to project and change management processes and standards.

• Ability to provide technical consulting and problem-solving within a complex enterprise environment.

• Current working knowledge of MS Office 365 products.

• A remote environment that adequately supports daily technical and professional activities.

• Availability to work during standard business hours, 8 a.m.–5 p.m., Monday-Friday, unless otherwise authorized.

• Capability to occasionally stand, walk, sit for extended periods, use hands, reach, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, bend, crouch or crawl, talk or hear, taste or smell.

• Ability to occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.

• Required vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral and depth vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
