Network Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Portugal.

📋 Description

• Administer, configure, and provide support for the client network utilizing Cisco and HP Aruba switching and wireless technologies.

• Oversee SonicWall devices and Fortigate firewalls, including the management of rules, policies, firmware updates, and health monitoring.

• Facilitate site-to-site and remote-access VPN connectivity while troubleshooting associated connectivity issues.

• Support networking within VMware virtualized environments.

• Conduct start-of-day checks on network health, including monitoring and alerting systems.

• Assist in the implementation of SD-WAN, encompassing site migrations, testing, and transitioning into business-as-usual operations.

• Contribute to LAN and Wi-Fi refresh programs by providing design input, configuration, cutover, and validation support.

• Engage in bi-weekly sprint meetings and accomplish assigned work items in Azure DevOps (ADO).

• Manage ITSM incidents and service requests tracked in ADO, taking ownership of incidents until resolution and root cause analysis (RCA) is completed.

• Initiate, document, and execute network changes through the Change Advisory Board (CAB).

• Liaise with both technical and business stakeholders during incidents and changes.

• Escalate issues to and collaborate with vendors when problems surpass internal support capabilities.

• Automate repetitive tasks related to configuration, backup, and compliance checks wherever feasible.

• Implement network security standards and enforce least-privilege access policies.

• Maintain accurate network diagrams, configurations, and runbooks in Confluence.


⛳️ Requirements

• Proven hands-on network engineering experience with Cisco and HP Aruba technologies (switching, routing, and wireless).

• Proficient in firewall management with Fortigate and SonicWall.

• Skilled in VPN configuration and troubleshooting.

• Experience in supporting networking within VMware environments.

• Familiarity with ITSM processes (incident, request, change including CAB) and Azure DevOps (ADO) boards.

• Strong troubleshooting abilities coupled with excellent communication skills.

• Experience in SD-WAN implementation and migration is preferred.

• Background in LAN and Wi-Fi refresh/deployment projects, including conducting wireless surveys is desired.

• Knowledge of network automation/scripting, such as Python and Ansible, is a plus.

• Relevant certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP, Aruba ACMA/ACMP, or Fortinet NSE are preferred.
