Naval Architect

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.

📋 Description

• Design and/or enhance vessel arrangements, hull shapes, structural designs, stability assessments, and performance evaluations.

• Conduct incline tests and deadweight surveys, generating stability documentation for regulatory evaluation.

• Ensure that designs adhere to relevant marine regulations and standards, such as CFRs, IMO, ABS, DNV, IEC, and SOLAS.

• Assist in the design of new vessels and the refurbishment and modification of existing ones.

• Collaborate with naval architects, electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, structural engineers, marine designers, and project managers.

• Execute system designs for standard marine systems.

• Support project development while working alongside engineers, shipyards, vendors, clients, and regulatory bodies.

• Create specifications, schematics, reports, and progress updates.

• Review and provide feedback on detailed designs submitted by shipyard contractors.

• Carry out vessel inspections and verifications to ensure compliance with regulatory, safety, and classification standards.

• Prepare documentation for approval, certification, and audits.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least four years of experience in the maritime industry, providing support in naval architecture and marine engineering.

• Bachelor of Science degree from an ABET-accredited program.

• Comprehensive knowledge of marine construction, ship repair, safety standards, and regulatory frameworks.

• Demonstrated expertise in shipyard and marine operations.

• Proficiency in GHS, Rhino, AutoCAD, and MS Office applications.

• Experience with scripting and automation languages, such as VBA, Python, and Grasshopper.

• Capability to perform onsite ship inspections.

• Conceptual understanding of fluid handling, mechanical propulsion components, hydraulics, and HVAC systems.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with sound reasoning abilities.

• Detail-oriented with the ability to interpret data and create design solutions.

• Proficient in technical research, reporting, and effective written communication.

• Ability to work both collaboratively in a team and independently.

• Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to clearly present technical concepts.

• Willingness to travel by car, plane, and vessel.

• Capability to climb ladders, enter confined spaces, and perform physical tasks in various environmental conditions during vessel inspections.

• Professional Engineer's License (PE) is preferred.
