Facilities Consultant – Architectural

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Examine drawings, specifications, maintenance records, prior reports, and documentation provided by clients.

• Conduct visual inspections of roofing systems, exterior walls and cladding, windows and curtain walls, doors and hardware, foundations and waterproofing systems, interior finishes, accessibility features, and building envelope assemblies.

• Evaluate the condition, performance, and remaining useful life of architectural systems and components.

• Carry out facility condition assessments and building envelope evaluations following Gordian methodologies and industry standards.

• Record deficiencies, deterioration, code issues, and operational concerns using field notes, photographs, and digital assessment tools.

• Formulate repair, replacement, and renewal recommendations.

• Execute service life evaluations and analyses of deferred maintenance.

• Aid in long-term capital planning through lifecycle forecasting and capital renewal recommendations.

• Prepare quantity takeoffs and cost estimates for repairs and replacements utilizing RSMeans, Gordian cost data, and industry-standard resources.

• Prioritize repair and replacement initiatives based on condition, risk, operational impact, and client goals.

• Collaborate with facility managers, operations staff, and client stakeholders.

• Communicate assessment findings and recommendations to clients.

• Assist with technical reviews, report preparation, quality assurance, and data validation.

• Contribute to the continuous improvement of assessment methodologies, standards, and best practices.

• Gather field data using tablets and mobile assessment software.

• Document findings in facility intelligence, asset management, and capital planning platforms.

• Create technical reports, cost analyses, and supporting documentation.

• Conduct quality assurance reviews to ensure data accuracy, consistency, and completeness.

⛳️ Requirements

• Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or a bachelor's degree in Architecture, Architectural Technology, Building Science, Facility Management, Construction Management, or Civil Engineering Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

• At least 2 years of professional experience in facility condition assessments, property condition assessments, architectural design and consulting, building envelope consulting, asset management, facility operations, property management, building construction or renovation projects, or construction administration.

• Knowledge of Canadian building construction systems and methodologies.

• Familiarity with building envelope assemblies and their performance.

• Understanding of accessibility requirements.

• Awareness of life safety requirements.

• Knowledge of deferred maintenance and lifecycle planning principles.

• Understanding of asset management concepts.

• Familiarity with the National Building Code of Canada, Provincial Building Codes, accessibility legislation and standards, and relevant CSA, ASTM, and BOMA standards.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Teams, and Microsoft Outlook.

• Experience with tablets, mobile applications, and digital field data collection tools.

• Capability to work with drawings, digital construction documents, PDFs, and asset databases.

• Ability to walk long distances through large facilities, campuses, and industrial sites.

• Competence to safely climb ladders, stairs, and access rooftops.

• Capacity to work in occupied facilities, mechanical rooms, crawlspaces, and outdoor environments.

• Willingness to travel approximately 40–50% across Canada, with occasional international travel as necessary.

• Strong skills in technical writing and report preparation.
