This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Washington.
• Oversee the national media strategy and cultivate strong relationships with reporters.
• Prepare team members, leadership, internal staff, and student organizers for on-the-record discussions, interviews, media appearances, and press events.
• Create and implement a comprehensive communications program on a national level and in targeted states.
• Write talking points, press releases, statements, op-eds, letters to the editor, and essential messaging materials under tight deadlines.
• Develop and execute proactive pitching strategies across print, television, radio, and online platforms.
• Act as an official on-the-record spokesperson for NextGen America.
• Author and manage NextGen’s Substack.
• Utilize long-form storytelling to showcase proprietary insights, youth voting narratives, organizational priorities, and updates on movements.
• Create innovative communications strategies to amplify student voices, campus organizers, and NextGen initiatives across earned and owned media.
• Monitor daily news, media trends, and important Gen Z cultural moments for rapid-response opportunities.
• Collaborate with digital and organizing teams to ensure consistent messaging across campaigns.
• Assist in the management and mentorship of student organizers.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
• A minimum of 3–5 years of communications experience in political campaigns, advocacy groups, or mission-driven organizations.
• Outstanding writing, messaging, and storytelling abilities.
• Proven aptitude in drafting compelling talking points, press materials, and newsletter/Substack content efficiently.
• Demonstrated experience in preparing and media prepping surrogates or leadership for press interviews.
• Strong media relations skills with established connections to national political reporters and media outlets.
• A passion for youth organizing, understanding Gen Z media trends, and uplifting student/NextGen voices.
• Capability to swiftly adapt to changing political priorities, tight deadlines, and urgent situations.
• Excellent organizational skills, keen attention to detail, and a collaborative approach.
• Willingness to travel 10–20% of the time.
