Mortgage Loan Repurchase Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Oversee the strategy, management, and resolution of mortgage repurchase and indemnification requests.

• Evaluate, analyze, and contest repurchase demands from investors, GSEs, and agencies such as Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, HUD, and VA.

• Assess, analyze, and dispute mortgage insurance rescission demands and appeal rescission notifications.

• Take ownership of the repurchase demand pipeline and ensure all appeal deadlines are met independently.

• Develop and maintain reports that track loan losses, defect trends, and essential metrics.

• Handle EPD requests, facilitate payments, and analyze default trends and their underlying causes.

• Cultivate and manage relationships with investors, GSEs, mortgage insurers, and warehouse lenders.

• Perform comprehensive audits of underwriting, closing, and servicing files.

• Prepare formal rebuttals and engage in negotiations for settlements or alternative resolutions with investors.

• Negotiate Repurchase Alternatives and conduct Impasse calls when feasible.

• Collaborate with capital markets, legal, underwriting, sales, quality control, servicing, and finance/accounting teams to address remediation, accountability, action plans, and training opportunities.

• Request funds for repurchase and facilitate the return of collateral and transfer of servicing following fund receipt.

• Monitor repurchase trends, identify root causes, implement corrective actions, suggest process enhancements, strengthen controls, and support enterprise risk management objectives.


⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma / GED is mandatory.

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in mortgage banking, primarily focusing on quality control, secondary marketing, underwriting, or repurchase management.

• Profound knowledge and daily engagement with Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac guidelines, HUD/VA requirements, and TRID/RESPA compliance standards.

• Advanced capability to trace loan defects, conduct forensic loan analyses, and reverse underwrite to identify operational root causes and trends.

• Proficient in interpreting complex mortgage contracts and rep and warranty recourse agreements.

• Outstanding written and verbal communication skills for drafting formal appeal letters and negotiating in high-stakes financial situations.

• Familiarity with Loan Origination Systems (LOS) such as Empower, investor reporting tools, and Microsoft Excel.

• Strong analytical, negotiation, and leadership abilities.

• In-depth knowledge of mortgage origination and servicing practices, investor guidelines, regulatory requirements, and quality assurance principles.
