Medical Records Technician – Inpatient

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Conduct inpatient coding for facilities, including ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, DRGs, and HCPCS as assigned.

• Examine comprehensive medical records for principal diagnoses/procedures, complications/co-morbidities, and documentation sufficiency.

• Ensure that coding facilitates accurate billing and clinical/statistical reporting.

• Engage with clinicians for documentation clarification utilizing VIRR and resolve queries promptly.

• Achieve 100% data validation for designated encounters.

• Collaborate with claims/billing personnel regarding documentation and coding/billing concerns.

• Assist in audits, corrective actions, and training initiatives alongside the auditor and COR.

• Generate monthly QA/improvement reports and additional reports as needed.

⛳️ Requirements

• Current certification: RHIT, RHIA, CCS, CCS-P, and/or CPC (must be maintained throughout the contract).

• Minimum of 3 years of continuous coding experience in a similar or larger facility environment.

• Expertise in ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, DRGs, HCPCS, and facility coding workflows.

• Must be a U.S. citizen.

• Proficient in both written and spoken English.

• Capable of operating within VA systems (e.g., VistA/CPRS, VIRR).

• Adherence to HIPAA/VA regulations.

• Ability to code records within 7 calendar days with greater than 95% compliance.

• Maintain a minimum of 95% accuracy for ICD-10-CM/PCS and related coding.

• Competence in providing monthly QA/improvement reports and other ad hoc reporting as requested.
