Medical Records Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Process requests for the release of information promptly and efficiently.

• Retrieve and return patients' medical records.

• Accurately scan medical records and transmit them daily in accordance with requests and established standards.

• Date stamp requests and emphasize relevant data.

• Validate requests and authorizations for the release of medical information.

• Conduct quality checks to ensure accuracy, confidentiality, proper invoicing, and compliance with release protocols.

• Keep equipment in optimal working condition.

• Provide attentive and respectful customer service while identifying client concerns or issues.

• Handle incoming requests, open mail, respond to telephone inquiries, and retrieve facsimile inquiries as necessary.

• Maintain a tidy, clean, and professional appearance and workspace.

• Stay informed about state laws and fee structures.

• Accept assignments, assist additional facilities, and help manage backlogs.

• Adhere to client/site policies, HIPAA regulations, state and federal laws, and labor regulations.

• Uphold confidentiality, security, and ethical standards when managing privileged medical information.

⛳️ Requirements

• High School Diploma (GED) is required.

• A minimum of 2 years of prior experience in a medical records department or similar environment is preferred.

• Strong computer software skills are essential; a general working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is required.

• Excellent organizational skills are mandatory.

• Must be able to type at least 50 words per minute.

• Proficiency in using a fax machine, copier, and scanning equipment is necessary.

• Willingness to quickly learn new equipment and processes is essential.

• Must be self-motivated and a team player.

• Proven customer satisfaction skills are required.

• Ability to multitask is necessary.
