This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +22 more states.
• Analyze intricate medical records and accurately assign codes for primary and secondary diagnoses and procedures following ICD-10-CM and CPT/CPT-4 standards.
• Oversee and evaluate the work of assigned or junior staff members.
• Perform regular audits to verify the quality and volume of work produced.
• Research, design, and deliver continuing education initiatives.
• Organize diagnoses and procedures in compliance with coding regulations.
• Guarantee precise assignment of DRG/APC.
• Extract and compile medical record information to maximize reimbursement for hospital or professional services.
• Provide consultation and training to physicians regarding coding practices and standards.
• Collaborate with nursing and ancillary service staff to gather essential documentation for accurate coding.
• Keep up-to-date with knowledge of anatomy, physiology, medical terminology, disease processes, surgical methods, and coding standards through ongoing education.
• Contribute to special projects and carry out related tasks.
• A high school diploma is mandatory.
• Must possess one active/current certification: RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC, or HCS-D.
• RHIA certification: no prior experience is necessary.
• RHIT certification: no prior experience is necessary.
• CCS certification: requires one year of coding experience.
• CPC or HCS-D certification: necessitates two years of coding experience.
• Proficiency in advanced ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions.
• Knowledge of anatomy and physiology.
• Familiarity with medical terminology.
• Extensive understanding of DRG/APC reimbursement processes.
• Experience with coding software.
• Skills in data entry/CRT.
• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
• Comprehensive understanding of medical record practices, standards, regulations, JCAHO, HCFA, and MRNC requirements.
