Medical Billing Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assess clinical documentation and accurately assign diagnosis and procedure codes in line with payer guidelines and coding regulations (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS).

• Process and submit insurance claims, ensuring precision in coding and adherence to payer-specific requirements.

• Verify the accuracy of claims before submission and proactively address any billing discrepancies.

• Investigate and follow up on unpaid balances, underpayments, and unresolved claims.

• Collaborate directly with insurance carriers to resolve reimbursement challenges and recover collectible funds.

• Monitor, submit, and follow up on appeals and reconsiderations until resolved.

• Accurately record insurance and patient payments to accounts.

• Maintain clear, concise, and timely records of all account activities.

• Ensure accurate patient billing records and documentation within the practice management system.

• Stay updated on coding changes, payer policy updates, and industry regulations.

• Work in conjunction with providers and administrative staff to foster efficient and compliant billing operations.

• Assist in internal audits and implement best practices to enhance billing accuracy and clean claim rates.

• Follow established procedures, protocols, and HIPAA regulations; escalate complex issues to the supervisor as necessary.

• Complete additional tasks as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in medical billing and coding within a healthcare environment.

• Experience in Sleep Medicine and/or DME billing is highly preferred.

• Strong knowledge of medical coding standards (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS), billing workflows, and insurance claim processes.

• Professional coding certification (CPC, CCS, RHIT, or RHIA) is advantageous.

• Preferred experience working with private medical practices or outpatient clinics.

• Exceptional attention to detail, accuracy, and strong organizational skills.

• Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex claim and reimbursement situations.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a remote work environment.
