Inpatient Coding Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Deliver CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10-CM coding across 1 to 4 specialties.

• Code professional fees and facility services.

• Offer coding support to clients.

• Utilize the company algorithm to calculate professional fee and/or facility E/M levels.

• Identify critical care cases based on patient acuity.

• Code surgical procedures common in an ER environment to enhance revenue when suitable.

• Apply ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes with the highest specificity available.

• Accurately assign ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT®, and HCPCS codes.

• Interpret coding guidelines to ensure precise code assignment.

• Assess the impact of documentation on coding and reimbursement.

• Adhere to AHIMA ethical coding standards and the company's Code of Ethics and Business Conduct.

• Follow internal policies regarding privacy, security, and confidentiality.

• Engage in training and educational opportunities provided by the company.

• Execute additional tasks as assigned by leadership.

⛳️ Requirements

• Certification required through either AAPC (CPC or COC) or AHIMA (CCS or CCS-P).

• Must maintain at least one credential from AAPC or AHIMA.

• A minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience.

• Ability to work independently from home with coding skills.

• Experience in coding for hospitalists, nephrology, bedside procedures, shared services, inpatient tests, and FS modifiers.

• Familiarity with EMR systems, specifically 3M Encompass or 3M encoder.

• Knowledge and experience with EMR and billing systems.

• Must possess a phone, reliable internet connection, and current references for CPT and ICD-10-CM coding.

• Maintain ongoing productivity and accuracy at 95% or above.

• Achieve a quality score of 95% or higher.

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Outlook.

• Demonstrate effective and professional verbal and written communication skills.

• Capable of coordinating, analyzing, observing, making decisions, and meeting deadlines.

• Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance is essential.

• Ability to work at a computer terminal for 6 to 8 hours daily.

• Capacity to sit for extended periods and occasionally lift and move materials weighing up to 20 lbs.
