This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia, +1 more state.
• Perform on-site Initial, Recertification, Revisit, Desk Audit, Complaint, Focus, and Pilot surveys for both long-term care and non-long-term care medical facility programs across the United States and its Territories.
• Execute surveys in alignment with the State Operations Manual.
• Prepare deficiency reports according to the Principles of Documentation and the HMS Master Writing Guide.
• Adhere to client-established deadlines and timeframes.
• Effectively connect identified deficient practices with relevant regulations.
• Accurately document survey findings utilizing laptop or tablet technology.
• Notify appropriate Quality Assurance personnel of Immediate Jeopardy Condition-level findings and Substandard Quality of Care findings.
• Collaborate with Quality Assurance staff to ensure that findings are well-documented and defensible prior to submission to CMS or SSA.
• Ensure documentation is submitted by established deadlines.
• Keep abreast of CMS and HMS policies and procedures, Medicare regulations, and CMS QSO memoranda.
• Identify and communicate opportunities for improvement in the survey process to leadership.
• Accept survey assignments as required and directed by CMS and HMS.
• Prior experience completing CMS surveys is mandatory.
• Completion of required CMS training for the provider types you are interested in surveying.
• Strong critical thinking skills and competent decision-making abilities are essential.
• Capability to perform all tasks required by the facility.
• A Bachelor’s degree with 3 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Preference will be given to registered nurses, LPNs, licensed social workers, and dietitians.
• Qualification in the Surveyor Minimum Qualifications Test (SMQT) for LTC surveyors.
• A licensed RN is preferred.
• Must be able to pass a federal background check.
• Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without requiring Visa sponsorship.
• Willingness to travel extensively.
• Proficient in using laptop or tablet technology for documentation purposes.
