Medical Director, Musculoskeletal MSK Programs

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design the MSK care model and oversee its clinical architecture from start to finish.

• Define conditions, member entry and triage, initial visits, escalation to imaging or surgical consultation, pain management, peri-operative optimization, and post-operative recovery pathways.

• Collaborate with product and engineering teams to develop an agentic AI interface.

• Encode clinical reasoning while specifying system questions, observations, escalations, and prohibited actions.

• Enhance member engagement between visits, support home-program adherence, and facilitate deterioration detection.

• Manage a shared patient panel and provide care for diagnostic ambiguities, red flags, complex multimorbid presentations, and cases outside established pathways.

• Recruit, train, and lead Advanced Practice Providers, physical therapists, and care team members.

• Establish encounter standards, maintain collaborative practice agreements across multiple states, conduct case reviews and interdisciplinary rounds, and develop a national team.

• Create quality measures, a balanced scorecard, and feedback loops.

• Enhance clinical pathways and the AI system by utilizing function and pain outcomes, assessing imaging and surgical referral appropriateness, practicing opioid stewardship, and improving member experience.

⛳️ Requirements

• Board-certified physician in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Sports Medicine, Rheumatology, Orthopedic Surgery, or Internal Medicine/ Family Medicine with significant MSK practice experience.

• Extensive clinical experience managing prevalent MSK conditions in adults, including older adults with multimorbidity.

• Proven experience in building or substantially redesigning a clinical program, pathway, or service line—not just managing one.

• A strong belief in measuring and enhancing quality across a population, with a willingness to be accountable for outcomes.

• Experience serving diverse patient populations, ensuring care aligns with our mission to treat every member as family.

• Over 5 years of experience delivering MSK care in a sports medicine, PM&R, or orthopedics practice.

• Experience overseeing Advanced Practice Providers, physical therapists, or other clinicians.

• Direct experience collaborating with product and engineering teams to develop clinical software or AI-enabled workflows.

• Familiarity with virtual or hybrid care delivery methods.

• Knowledge of Medicare Advantage populations and value-based care economics.

• Experience in peri-operative optimization, post-acute recovery, or falls and fracture prevention programs.
