This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Examine medical records from the emergency department and accurately assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, and relevant modifiers.
• Allocate facility Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels based on client-specific guidelines and billing methodologies.
• Evaluate documentation provided by nursing personnel, physicians, ancillary departments, and diagnostic services to ensure complete code assignment and charge capture.
• Implement official coding guidelines, CMS regulations, NCCI edits, and requirements specific to payers.
• Review accounts for procedural services and injections/infusions.
• Detect documentation deficiencies and communicate the need for coding clarifications.
• Uphold compliance with coding policies set by payers and the organization.
• Engage in coding quality reviews, audits, educational programs, and process enhancement initiatives.
• Remain updated on coding revisions, reimbursement modifications, and regulatory standards.
• Work collaboratively with coding leadership, auditors, and client representatives to address coding challenges.
• Intermediate-level experience is required.
• Familiarity with inpatient, outpatient, physician, or emergency department coding is essential.
• Proficiency in coding, ICD-10, Epic, emergency department coding, CPT codes, and HCPCS coding is necessary.
• Understanding of ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, and relevant modifiers is required.
• Knowledge of facility Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels and client-specific emergency department leveling guidelines is important.
• Acquaintance with the ACEP tool is beneficial.
• Awareness of official coding guidelines, CMS regulations, NCCI edits, and payer-specific requirements is essential.
• Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer, and organizational coding policies is expected.
