Accredited Clinical Coder

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Abstract and analyze intricate clinical data from patient case notes and various sources.

• Identify primary diagnoses, co-morbidities, procedures, investigations, and treatments for each care period.

• Convert clinical information into ICD-10 and OPCS-4 codes.

• Process coded data to generate Healthcare Resource Groups (HRGs) that assist in commissioner funding calculations.

• Apply ICD-10 and OPCS-4 guidelines and conventions.

• Revise training manuals and publications when coding modifications or clarifications are provided.

• Notify coding team leaders about national and local coding updates.

• Ensure that coded data accurately represents diagnoses and procedures for every patient episode within agreed timelines.

• Investigate and compile information for informed code-assignment decisions.

• Share findings during scheduled office meetings.

• Attend both internal and external training, while engaging in regular coding audits.

• Supervise, mentor, and assist less experienced and trainee coders.

• Offer structured feedback to individuals and management.

• Maintain an extensive understanding of anatomy, physiology, medical procedures, diagnoses, and terminology.

• Support coders and other staff involved in the coding process.

• Engage in clinical coding validation processes.

• Stay updated with advancements in clinical coding.

⛳️ Requirements

• ACC National qualification.

• Proven knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy.

• Familiarity with patient information systems.

• Extensive coding experience in an acute Trust across all specialties, including at least one year post-examination experience.

• Comprehensive understanding of ICD-10 and OPCS-4.

• Capability to resolve complex coding inquiries and implement agreed-upon decisions.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to meet deadlines in a high-pressure environment.

• Consistently code all specialties with 90%+ accuracy.

• Methodical, detail-oriented, and precise approach.

• Ability to perform under pressure and as part of a team.

• Flexibility and self-driven motivation.

• Proficient IT skills.

• Understanding of anatomy and physiology.
