This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.
• Examine medical records from the emergency department and assign ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, and relevant modifiers.
• Determine facility Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels based on client-specific emergency department leveling guidelines and charging methodologies.
• Evaluate documentation from nursing, physicians, ancillary departments, and diagnostic services to ensure accurate code assignment and charge capture.
• Implement official coding guidelines, CMS regulations, NCCI edits, and payer-specific requirements.
• Review accounts for procedural services and injections/infusions.
• Recognize documentation deficiencies and communicate the need for coding clarifications.
• Ensure adherence to payer and organizational coding policies.
• Engage in coding quality reviews, audits, educational programs, and process improvements.
• Keep up to date with coding, reimbursement, and regulatory changes.
• Work collaboratively with coding leadership, auditors, and client representatives to address coding concerns.
• Intermediate-level experience.
• Capability to review emergency department medical records.
• Familiarity with ICD-10-CM diagnosis codes, CPT/HCPCS procedure codes, and relevant modifiers.
• Understanding of facility Evaluation and Management (E/M) levels and client-specific emergency department leveling guidelines.
• Knowledge of the ACEP tool.
• Awareness of official coding guidelines, CMS regulations, National Correct Coding Initiative (NCCI) edits, and payer-specific requirements.
• Ability to identify documentation gaps and clarify coding needs.
• Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, commercial payer, and organizational coding policies.
• Capacity to stay updated on coding revisions, reimbursement alterations, and regulatory mandates impacting emergency department facility coding.
