Materials Testing Field Lead – Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Provide technical leadership and oversight for construction materials testing, inspection, and geotechnical field activities throughout Canada.

• Manage the field compaction testing program, which includes tracking certifications, calibrations, resource scheduling, revenue management, and forecasting.

• Supervise, train, mentor, and offer technical guidance to field personnel.

• Conduct and oversee testing of soil, aggregate, and compaction, including the utilization of nuclear densometers.

• Interpret project design drawings, specifications, and relevant ASTM, CSA, municipal, and provincial standards.

• Identify and communicate quality concerns and instances of non-conforming work.

• Review field reports, test results, technical documentation, and daily logs.

• Provide technical oversight for reporting and documentation processes.

• Collaborate with laboratory operations to support CCIL quality standards.

• Serve as the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) or an alternate when necessary.

• Assist with proposals, nurture client relationships, and engage in business development initiatives.

• Advocate for and uphold robust health and safety practices across both field and laboratory operations.

• Collaborate with clients, contractors, and project teams within a QA/QC framework.

• Contribute to the growth of Phasor Engineering’s materials testing and field service capabilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 8 years of experience in construction materials testing, civil construction, inspection, or a similar discipline.

• Practical experience with soil and compaction testing methodologies.

• Familiarity with operating portable nuclear moisture/density gauges.

• Comprehensive understanding of ASTM and CSA testing standards.

• Experience in supervising, training, or mentoring field personnel.

• Proven track record of working with clients, contractors, and project teams within a QA/QC context.

• Excellent technical writing, communication, and organizational capabilities.

• Capacity to work independently and provide technical direction in field settings.

• Possession of a valid driver's license and willingness to travel extensively across Canada.

• Role may require up to 90% travel, depending on project and staffing needs.

• Ability to work for extended periods away from home and on remote or active construction sites.

• Capability to lift and carry equipment weighing over 50 lbs.

• Willingness to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physical field tasks including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and climbing.

• Professional Engineering designation (P.Eng.) is advantageous.

• Experience in CCIL, RSO, geotechnical, hydrogeological, environmental, or business development roles is beneficial.

• Background in performing or overseeing concrete and asphalt sampling and testing is a plus.

• Experience in conducting or supervising laboratory testing such as sieve analysis, Proctor tests, concrete strength tests, hydrometer tests, Atterberg limits, and specific gravity tests is an asset.

• Experience in inspecting concrete and reinforcing steel, asphalt, foundations, water resources infrastructure, or other civil construction inspections is a valuable asset.

• Experience in performing or overseeing geotechnical, hydrogeological, or environmental field investigations is a plus.
