This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Asia.
• Drive the adoption of open-source energy modeling in key priority markets across Asia.
• Establish connections with system operators, ministries, regulators, consultants, research institutions, and other organizations involved in energy planning.
• Increase awareness of open-source energy modeling through participation in engagements, conferences, seminars, workshops, and regional networks.
• Spot opportunities where open approaches can significantly impact and convert discussions into viable project concepts.
• Assist in identifying potential funders and develop pathways for obtaining funding when necessary.
• Respond to tenders and procurement processes, including opportunities from the Asian Development Bank and other international entities.
• Stay informed on emerging priorities, institutional developments, funding opportunities, competing methodologies, and shifts in Asia’s energy modeling landscape.
• Provide regional insights to senior leadership, Marketing, and Communications to enhance strategy, positioning, and outreach.
• Advise technical project teams regarding the context of energy-system modeling in Asia.
• Manage opportunities from initial engagement to contracting, collaborating with OET colleagues and the Head of Research & Market Development on significant or strategic projects.
• Report to the Head of Research & Market Development.
• Collaborate closely with Marketing and Project Leads.
• Engage in regular regional travel, with a minimum of monthly trips anticipated.
• Proficiency in English is essential.
• Extensive relevant experience, generally 8+ years.
• Relevant background in market development, consulting, a system operator, ministry, regulator, university, or research organization.
• Capability to work independently within a fully remote, geographically dispersed team.
• Skill in managing multiple competing priorities and adapting to a changing environment.
• Strong communication skills, tactfulness, and the ability to collaborate asynchronously across functions.
• Established relationships with energy sector institutions in at least some priority Asian markets.
• Knowledge of energy planning decisions, key stakeholders, and institutional interactions.
• Practical experience with power or energy system modeling.
• Familiarity with energy modeling approaches, capabilities, and limitations.
• Ability to build trust, engage with senior decision-makers, deliver presentations and seminars, facilitate workshops, and explain complex technical topics.
• Strong judgment and the capacity to convert relationships into funded projects or contracts.
• A genuine commitment to open-source methodologies.
• An entrepreneurial mindset, cultural awareness, and a highly autonomous working style.
• Proficiency in German and other languages is advantageous.
• Experience with PyPSA or other open-source initiatives is a plus.
• Background at a startup, nonprofit, and/or in the energy sector is beneficial.
• Experience on a fully remote, distributed team is an advantage.
• Familiarity with xxxxxx TOOLS or similar platforms is a bonus.
• Experience in responding to tenders or developing projects with multilateral or bilateral development institutions is advantageous.
• Experience with development finance, philanthropic funding, or donor-funded energy programs is a plus.
• A university degree is not a prerequisite.
