Manager, Subcontracts

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama.

📋 Description

• Lead a team of subcontract professionals in support of defense and aerospace initiatives.

• Provide daily leadership, coaching, performance management, and employee development opportunities.

• Oversee the complete subcontract lifecycle, including planning, solicitation, award, administration, and closeout.

• Collaborate with program leadership and cross-functional teams to meet technical, scheduling, financial, and compliance goals.

• Address escalated supplier, contractual, and performance challenges.

• Monitor subcontract risk, performance metrics, documentation, and ensure audit readiness.

• Promote process improvement, standardization, operational excellence, and functional proficiency.

• Assist with hiring, onboarding, training, and workforce development initiatives.

• Lead high-visibility subcontract projects and represent the function in various meetings and reviews.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree with a minimum of 9 years of relevant management experience; or a Graduate Degree with at least 7 years of related management experience; or, alternatively, a minimum of 13 years of relevant management experience without a degree.

• Willingness to travel up to 25% as needed.

• Previous experience in a formal people management role is required.

• Experience in supporting defense, aerospace, or U.S. Government contracting programs is essential.

• Strong understanding of FAR, DFARS, CPSR expectations, and subcontract compliance requirements.

• Proficient in managing fixed-price, cost-reimbursement, and time-and-materials subcontracts.

• Skilled in cost analysis, price analysis, negotiation strategy formulation, and supplier risk management.

• Experience overseeing high-value or critical subcontract portfolios.

• Familiar with audit readiness, internal control measures, purchasing system evaluations, and compliance assessments.

• Knowledge of earned value, funding profiles, program controls, and supplier performance metrics.

• Working understanding of ITAR, EAR, and export compliance regulations.

• Proven success in talent development, coaching, mentoring, and enhancing team capabilities.

• Excellent communication, organizational, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
