Manager, Software Engineering – Reliability Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +4 more states.

📋 Description

• Build and lead a high-performance product engineering team focused on fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, reliability, and execution.

• Utilize AI-assisted engineering workflows to expedite platform development, automate operations, and enhance engineering productivity.

• Convert ambiguous operational and organizational challenges into clear technical specifications, execution strategies, and measurable outcomes.

• Establish scalable reliability, risk management, and operational governance capabilities for Affirm’s production systems through observability tools, automation, and AI.

• Create foundational systems that enable engineers to comprehend service ownership, dependencies, and operational topology throughout Affirm’s infrastructure and applications.

• Foster alignment among Platform Engineering, SRE, Infrastructure, and product engineering teams to define requirements, prioritize investments, and achieve long-term technical roadmap objectives.

• Oversee the execution and delivery of critical cross-functional reliability initiatives that possess high organizational visibility.


⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of experience in backend or full-stack engineering, including over 2 years in engineering leadership roles.

• Experience collaborating with or within Production Engineering or Site Reliability Engineering teams.

• Proficiency in observability tools and in developing software or managing programs that promote engineering culture and reliability practices.

• Strong operational judgment with the ability to provide clarity, prioritize, and execute in uncertain problem areas.

• Experience in building internal platforms, developer tooling, reliability products, or operational automation systems at scale.

• Proven capability to balance rapid iteration and experimentation with operational rigor and long-term maintainability.

• Solid programming background (e.g., Python, Kotlin, Java, or similar languages).

• Excellent communication and organizational leadership abilities, with a successful history of aligning stakeholders, driving execution, and influencing engineering practices across teams.

• This role requires either relevant practical experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
