Manager – Oncology Discovery Contracting

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee a designated portfolio of scientific contracting projects across early-stage biology, chemistry, and scientific technology sectors.

• Collaborate with Project Management, Scientific, Legal, and Business Operations teams to comprehend project scope and draft, negotiate, and manage contracts.

• Handle a significant volume of simultaneous contract assignments while sustaining portfolio progress and adjusting priorities as necessary.

• Provide contracting advice to internal business partners regarding assigned agreements.

• Elevate complex compliance or contractual matters to team leadership with well-defined options.

• Engage with project management teams concerning forthcoming third-party contracting requirements, scope, deliverables, timelines, and prioritization.

• Interact with third-party suppliers to facilitate contracting discussions and identify as well as mitigate routine risks.

• Collaborate with third-party risk management and leadership when issues extend beyond standard parameters.

• Draft and negotiate assigned contracts, coordinating with Legal and subject-matter experts as required.

• Assist business partners in the procure-to-pay process, encompassing purchase requisition submission and invoice reconciliation.

• Ensure internal compliance and escalate discrepancies as needed.

• Utilize Lilly’s contract lifecycle management (CLM) system for contract intake, drafting, tracking, and reporting.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree is required.

• A degree in biology or a related scientific field is preferred.

• Scientific literacy and/or a background in a relevant biological discipline is essential.

• Ability to engage credibly with research scientists in exploratory research, translational science, and large molecule biology.

• A minimum of 3 years of contract management experience, including procurement-facing contracting in a biotechnology or pharmaceutical environment.

• Capability to manage an assigned portfolio of agreements accurately and punctually.

• Must be authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.

• Experience with project management, finance, procurement, and contract lifecycle management software is preferred.

• Familiarity with software licensing agreements, including SaaS and data platform agreements, in a life sciences or research context is preferred.

• Proficiency with AI tools and a willingness to implement emerging AI and technology solutions is preferred.

• Strong skills in contract drafting, review, and analysis.

• Working knowledge of intellectual property, indemnification, limitation of liability, confidentiality, and payment terms.

• Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage a high volume of concurrent assignments.

• Commitment to becoming proficient with Lilly’s contract lifecycle management (CLM) system and other designated business tools.

• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

• Exceptional attention to detail and critical thinking skills.

• Proficient in MS Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
