This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee production support for bioinformatics and data science algorithms related to Women's Health and Organ Health products.

• Manage a team of Data and Bioinformatics Scientists responsible for the algorithm's performance on actual samples.

• Serve as the primary liaison between the Data and Bioinformatics Scientists and the production team.

• Address inconclusive reports by evaluating technical constraints and data quality challenges.

• Identify upstream process modifications to minimize inconclusive cases.

• Maintain a repository of known patterns to match new cases with resolved cases.

• Utilize AI to compile and assist in interpreting evidence during the triage process.

• Collaborate with Production Engineering, Product, the laboratory, and R&D to synchronize changes in direction and scope.

• Set service commitments for turnaround times and coverage.

• Develop the necessary processes and staffing to fulfill service commitments.

• Direct production support to ensure responses are accurate and timely.

• Lead investigations across systems and determine accountability for fixes.

• Transform one-time investigations into long-lasting rules and design modifications.

• Manage process validation for pipeline and algorithm modifications.

• Establish evidence requirements prior to changes being integrated into sample-running workflows.

• Recruit, lead, and nurture Data and Bioinformatics Scientists.

• Collaborate with Production Engineering, Product, Bio Development, laboratory operations, and Data Science R&D.

• Set standards for agent-assisted investigations and ascertain when conclusions need manual verification.

• Minimize recurring escalations and reduce test turnaround times.

• Develop and uphold change validation and support procedures.


⛳️ Requirements

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience gained through work.

• Over 5 years of experience working with genomic or sequencing data.

• At least 2 years of experience in a leadership role.

• Proven track record of ownership in support, escalation, or on-call functions with associated commitments.

• Experience leading investigations across multiple system boundaries to resolution.

• Capability to negotiate agreements across organizational lines without formal authority.

• Fluency in sequencing and bioinformatics to differentiate between pipeline failures and expected behavior.

• Proficiency in reconstructing events from logs, intermediate files, and pipeline outputs.

• Skilled in Python and SQL for investigations, record retrieval, run comparisons, and tool development.

• Familiarity with change control, validation, and documentation practices.

• Experience in defining support processes, establishing commitments, securing consensus, and appropriately staffing.

• Demonstrated leadership abilities, including development, hiring, or repositioning of team members.

• Understanding of laboratory operations and upstream data challenges.

• Strong communication, negotiation, and persuasion skills at a senior level.

• Knowledge of machine learning or statistical analysis applied to genomic data is beneficial but not mandatory.

• Experience with cell-free DNA, prenatal, or carrier screening applications is a plus.

• Background in an accredited or high-complexity laboratory or regulated diagnostic environment is advantageous.

• Familiarity with WDL, Nextflow, Snakemake, or Cromwell is beneficial.

• Experience in building observability or alerting systems is a plus.
