This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in District of Columbia, +1 more state.
• Oversee the daily operations of the Mayors Alliance to End Childhood Hunger
• Facilitate the onboarding process for new member mayors
• Create and distribute newsletters and communications for members
• Organize virtual and in-person events and receptions
• Coordinate meetings, briefings, and sign-on letters for the Public Policy Council
• Assist in recruitment and engagement strategies to expand Mayors Alliance membership
• Aid in managing grant opportunities available to Mayors Alliance members
• Monitor and analyze trends and elections impacting local elected officials
• Discover opportunities to affect policy implementation and promote systems change
• Integrate local government relations strategy within the broader organizational goals
• Utilize relationships with mayors, city council members, county commissioners, and other local officials to facilitate federal and state policy changes
• Foster partnerships with national associations that represent local elected officials
• Act as a representative of Share Our Strength at conferences, community events, and meetings with policymakers
• Collaborate with colleagues to promote diversity and inclusion throughout the organization and its initiatives
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is preferred, but not mandatory
• 3–5 years of pertinent experience in local government, government relations, and/or public policy change
• Proven experience collaborating with local elected officials and government associations
• Strong interest in addressing anti-hunger and anti-poverty issues
• Established record of creating and managing successful collaborative partnerships
• Sound judgment and emotional intelligence to navigate challenges and maintain long-term relationships
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
• Experience presenting to senior-level audiences
• Capacity to initiate, organize, and prioritize various projects
• Ability to recognize challenges and formulate effective strategic recommendations
• Detail-oriented and highly organized
• Capable of working independently and efficiently
