Manager, Forward Deployed Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Lead, recruit, mentor, and cultivate a team of Forward Deployed Engineers.

• Set clear expectations and conduct 1:1 meetings, feedback sessions, and performance development initiatives.

• Oversee capacity planning, staffing, engineer distribution, utilization, and address delivery bottlenecks.

• Manage engineering delivery for strategic deployments, including milestones, dependencies, risks, escalations, and alignment with stakeholders.

• Implement time tracking and enhance delivery visibility through streamlined reporting.

• Provide technical guidance, review designs and code, and resolve high-severity production challenges.

• Develop reusable field engineering patterns, playbooks, and established standards.

• Convert recurring customer requirements into product proposals and collaborate with Product and Core Engineering teams.

• Work closely with customer architecture, security, and platform teams to achieve results and foster technical trust.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of experience in software engineering, systems integration, DevOps, or data engineering roles with significant production accountability.

• Proven track record in leading and nurturing engineers, encompassing management, team leadership, coaching, recruitment, and performance enhancement.

• Demonstrated ability to successfully deliver complex technical projects within large enterprise settings, managing multiple stakeholders and constraints.

• Strong expertise in backend engineering, APIs, cloud platforms, Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code, and databases.

• Capability to take ownership and drive smaller technical workstreams from start to finish, including debugging and implementation.

• Excellent planning, prioritization, capacity planning, and risk management abilities.

• Confident in customer-facing communications with engineering teams and senior technical stakeholders.

• Experience in developing or integrating AI/LLM-powered systems is a notable advantage.

• Familiarity with TypeScript, NodeJS, OpenAI, Microsoft Azure, Kubernetes, Docker, Terraform, MongoDB, MySQL, Redis, Kafka, and MCP.
