This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Minnesota.

📋 Description

• Provide support in the assessment, design, implementation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and validation of industrial machine safety systems and safety-related control systems.

• Operate under general supervision on moderately complex machine safety assignments and assist with larger, more intricate projects.

• Utilize machine safety principles, risk assessment methodologies, safety-related controls, and relevant industry standards to devise effective safety solutions.

• Comprehend and uphold Hargrove C&A core values along with CSIA processes and procedures.

• Identify and communicate scope and design modifications to the Project Engineer or Lead.

• Aid in conducting machine safety risk assessments, audits, hazard identification, and risk mitigation requirements.

• Create and execute machine safety solutions in accordance with standards, client specifications, and project requirements.

• Choose and apply machine safety devices and safety-related control components.

• Assess Safety Performance Levels and/or Safety Integrity Levels as necessary.

• Employ Sistema or comparable tools for safety-related control system analysis.

• Design safety circuits, safety control logic, and safety-related PLC programs.

• Configure and troubleshoot safety PLCs, safety I/O, safety relays, and associated components.

• Verify and validate machine safety functions.

• Engage in machine safety testing, commissioning, and startup activities.

• Diagnose issues with machine safety circuits, devices, PLCs, I/O, and related control systems.

• Develop machine safety specifications, safety function requirements, and control system documentation.

• Prepare project documentation that includes risk assessments, safety specifications, circuit drawings, validation plans, test procedures, acceptance testing procedures, control narratives, I/O listings, network and architecture drawings, communications data maps, and cutover procedures.

• Interpret electrical schematics, machine safety circuit drawings, P&IDs, motor elementaries, instrument loop sheets, equipment drawings, and control system documentation.

• Conduct fieldwork to gather equipment information, assess existing safety systems, and obtain control system configurations.

• Review controls & automation and machine safety inputs within other discipline drawings and documentation.

• Generate controls and machine safety hardware installation documentation sourced from vendor drawings and project information.

• Gain understanding of industrial control systems and their interactions with safety-related control systems.

• Offer technical support and troubleshooting assistance to colleagues and clients.

• Collaborate with vendors concerning machine safety components, applications, and technical issues.

• Provide technical guidance to less experienced teammates and Co-Ops.

• Manage time effectively, prioritize assigned tasks, and adhere to Hargrove Policies and Procedures.


⛳️ Requirements

• An Associate of Science degree in Electronics Technology, Information Technology, Automation, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related field is highly desirable; equivalent technical education and relevant industrial experience may be accepted.

• 5 to 8 years of pertinent industrial experience in controls and automation, electrical controls, industrial automation, or machine safety.

• Proven experience in industrial machine safety, safety-related control systems, machine safety risk assessments, or automation safety applications is preferred.

• Relevant certifications such as TÜV Functional Safety, CMSE, CFSE, ISA, Master Electrician, Microsoft, Cisco, or others are preferred.

• Capability to conduct or assist in machine safety audits and risk assessments.

• Familiarity with Sistema or other machine safety risk calculation methodologies.

• Working knowledge of industrial machine safety principles and safety-related control systems.

• Understanding of machine safety hardware, software, and safety-related control technologies.

• Comprehension of standard control functions versus safety-related control functions.

• Ability to interpret and troubleshoot safety circuits and safety devices.

• Acquainted with safety-rated PLCs, safety relays, safety I/O, safety controllers, and safety-rated field devices.

• Knowledge of Safety Performance Level (PL) and/or Safety Integrity Level (SIL) concepts.

• Understanding of machine safety validation, testing, and documentation.

• Familiarity with ANSI B11, NFPA 79, ISO 13849, IEC 62061, and OSHA standards.

• Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, machine safety circuits, P&IDs, control system documentation, and equipment drawings.

• Basic to intermediate knowledge of PLCs and industrial automation systems.

• Ability to troubleshoot software, networking, I/O, hardware, safety circuit, and safety device problems in the field.

• Familiarity with industrial communication networks and protocols.

• Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office products.

• Strong capability to communicate technical information both verbally and in writing.

• Ability to estimate and/or predict task completion.

• Effectiveness in working within a virtual and multidisciplinary team environment.

• Capacity to mentor Co-Ops and less experienced teammates.

• Ability to lift and carry over 25 lbs.

• Willingness to travel by vehicle and/or commercial flight, including overnight trips.

• Capability to work in industrial and manufacturing settings.

• Ability to access equipment, machinery, electrical panels, control panels, and other field equipment.

• Competence in performing field observations, assessments, commissioning, and troubleshooting while adhering to site safety protocols.

• Must have authorization to work in the United States.
