Machine Learning Engineering Manager – Music

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Lead, mentor, and cultivate a multidisciplinary team consisting of machine learning, data, and backend engineers.

• Provide technical guidance on intricate ML systems, encompassing modeling strategies, implementation, technical trade-offs, risks, and decision-making.

• Represent and advocate for the team among cross-functional stakeholders in business, product, insights, and personalization.

• Empower engineers to take ownership of technical decisions while offering direction and resolving trade-offs when necessary.

• Act as the primary contact for requests from cross-functional partners and safeguard the team's focused work time.

• Oversee healthy delivery, prioritization, capacity management, operational health, and reliable execution.

• Stay engaged with engineering practices and contribute hands-on to technical problem-solving and engineering tasks when beneficial.

• Assist the team in effectively integrating AI into engineering workflows and identifying opportunities for AI to enhance ML systems.

• Recruit and onboard engineers while fostering resilient team capabilities and knowledge distribution.

• Proven experience in managing engineers along with a strong track record of developing and overseeing technical individual contributors.

• Strong foundation in machine learning, including modeling strategies, ML system design, and technical discussions with proficient ML practitioners.

• Capability to independently evaluate ML strategies and technical trade-offs, challenge assumptions, and communicate technical direction to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

• Comfort in adapting to evolving product and business requirements and creating clarity amidst sudden shifts in direction.

• Ability to build trust with seasoned engineers by granting them autonomy while remaining close enough to coach effectively and recognize risks.

• Thoughtful leadership and discernment regarding when to facilitate, delegate, or make decisions.

• Preference for streamlined, purposeful processes.

• Proficiency in making calculated trade-offs, learning through iteration, and upholding appropriate technical and operational standards.

• Capability to manage significant technical, product, and business dependencies with partner teams and establish credibility with senior cross-functional stakeholders.

• Comfort in utilizing AI tools and a perspective on enhancing engineering effectiveness and evolving ML-powered products.
