Machine Learning Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design, implement, configure, operate, and maintain AWS-based platform services for essential Department of War applications and workloads.

• Manage Kubernetes clusters and associated services, encompassing access control, ingress, storage, secrets, networking, autoscaling, upgrades, and lifecycle maintenance.

• Create and sustain repeatable infrastructure and platform configurations utilizing infrastructure-as-code tools.

• Enhance and develop CI/CD pipelines, GitOps workflows, container registries, artifact repositories, automated testing, and deployment controls.

• Onboard, configure, implement, and maintain containerized applications across development, testing, staging, and production environments.

• Integrate platform services with DODIN network services, IAM, PKI, logging, monitoring, vulnerability management, endpoint security, and government enterprise services.

• Enforce secure platform configurations that align with security baselines, DISA STIGs, RMF requirements, and ATO conditions.

• Monitor platform availability, performance, capacity, security posture, and application health.

• Diagnose complex issues involving Linux, containers, Kubernetes, AWS, networking, certificates, encryption, load balancing, storage, compute, identity, and application dependencies.

• Execute patching, vulnerability remediation, configuration management, backup, recovery, and controlled upgrades.

• Collaborate with teams in cybersecurity, networking, software, data, systems engineering, and mission operations.

• Maintain documentation for platform architecture, configuration standards, operating procedures, runbooks, troubleshooting guides, deployment instructions, and knowledge articles.

• Assist in technical interchange meetings, architecture reviews, release planning, change control, incident response, root-cause analysis, and after-action reviews.

• Provide status updates on platform health, technical risks, security findings, maintenance activities, dependencies, and recommended actions.

• Engage in scheduled maintenance and urgent incident response outside of regular working hours when mission requirements dictate.

⛳️ Requirements

• Active Secret security clearance.

• At least five years of directly relevant professional experience.

• Practical experience operating, integrating, or maintaining systems linked to the DODIN.

• Current Department of Defense 8570-compliant certification relevant to assigned information assurance or cybersecurity workforce functions.

• Practical experience in deploying, managing, troubleshooting, and upgrading Kubernetes environments.

• Hands-on experience with AWS infrastructure and services.

• Experience in administering Linux-based systems.

• Experience in building, securing, deploying, and managing containers using Docker, OCI-compatible technologies, or similar tools.

• Familiarity with infrastructure as code, configuration automation, source control, CI/CD pipelines, and repeatable deployment methodologies.

• Working knowledge of enterprise networking concepts, including TCP/IP, routing, firewalls, DNS, load balancing, VPNs, TLS, certificates, and network segmentation.

• Understanding of Department of Defense cybersecurity and authorization practices, including RMF, STIGs, vulnerability management, continuous monitoring, and ATO requirements.

• Capability to independently diagnose complex technical issues, coordinate with technical teams, document findings, and drive resolution.

• Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

• Capacity to work efficiently in a remote setting, safeguard government information, maintain reliable connectivity, and travel periodically.
