Linux Kernel Development Engineer – Live Patching

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and sustain the Linux Kernel for Rocky Linux.

• Collaborate with the Development team to establish software requirements and spearhead operational and technical initiatives.

• Create and uphold a kernel live patching process.

• Oversee the design, development, and upkeep of Linux kernel components for CIQ products and services.

• Work alongside cross-functional teams to collect requirements and convert them into effective and scalable kernel designs.

• Produce high-quality, modular, and thoroughly documented code in C and other pertinent programming languages.

• Build and maintain the infrastructure, automation, and tools for kernel live patching.

• Troubleshoot and resolve intricate kernel-level problems, including those related to memory management, process scheduling, and inter-process communication.

• Partner with hardware engineers and stakeholders to ensure the integration of kernel components with hardware platforms.

• Assess advancements within the Linux kernel community and related technologies.

• Evaluate code submissions and offer constructive feedback.

• Conduct performance assessments and optimizations of kernel components.

• Document design choices, APIs, and procedures.

• Provide mentorship and guidance to junior developers.

• A strong enthusiasm for Linux and open-source software, coupled with a dedication to delivering high-quality, reliable products.

• Proficient in C programming with a thorough understanding of low-level system programming concepts.

• Strong skills in debugging and troubleshooting to identify and resolve intricate kernel-level issues.

• Comprehensive knowledge of Linux kernel internals, file systems, device drivers, kernel module development, and kpatch operations.

• Familiarity with hardware platforms and architectures, such as x86 and ARM, and their interactions with the Linux kernel.

• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with the capability to propose innovative solutions to technical challenges.

• Excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively work within a team-oriented setting.

• Self-driven and capable of working independently, managing priorities, and meeting project deadlines.

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

• At least 5 years of experience in Linux kernel development, particularly focusing on system-level programming and device driver development.

• Extensive experience in designing and developing Linux kernel components, including process and memory management as well as inter-process communication.

• Familiarity with version control systems, preferably Git, and collaborative development workflows.
