This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Deliver and advocate for efficient virtual reference services that enhance student development and learning outcomes.

• Act as the primary point of contact for library staff and users.

• Report directly to the Supervisor of Reference Services.

• Collaborate with fellow library staff to provide comprehensive library services.

• Offer reference and research assistance to students, faculty, and staff.

• Aid users in cultivating effective skills, competencies, and strategies for utilizing library databases and online resources.

• Evaluate reference inquiries to ascertain information needs.

• Provide support for users regarding library resources and services, including instructional and technical help via phone, email, chat, and other established channels.

• Foster and uphold a learner- and customer-oriented service culture.

• Promote library services and instructional offerings.

• Identify and troubleshoot technical issues related to library services, resolving them or escalating as necessary.

• Update and manage library instructional resources, team training materials, and operational job aids, including library guides, FAQs, and internal SharePoint tracking lists.

• Attend scheduled one-on-one meetings with the supervisor.

• Engage in team training and personal development opportunities when possible.

• Stay informed on technologies and trends that enhance teaching and learning as time permits.

• Establish annual goals and provide performance feedback.

• Commit to a work schedule of 10 hours per week in a very part-time capacity.


⛳️ Requirements

• A Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS) or Master of Library Science (MLS) from an ALA accredited institution is mandatory.

• Availability to work Sunday from 11 am to 8 pm Central.

• Availability to work Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm Central.

• Evening and weekend hours are required.

• A broadband or high-speed internet connection is necessary; satellite internet is not acceptable.

• Must be able to allocate significant time to working at a computer and on the phone using a headset.

• Experience in working with adult learners and providing reference services to a diverse audience is essential.

• Familiarity with library research and online searching is required.

• Strong organizational and analytical abilities, along with accuracy and attention to detail, are crucial.

• Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills are necessary.

• Proven proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is required.

• Ability to locate, comprehend, and interpret bibliographic citations is essential.

• Demonstrated capability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines is required.

• A strong commitment to customer service is essential.

• Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team with diverse faculty, staff, and learners.

• Capability to spend the majority of time engaging with individuals via phone and computer is necessary.

• Experience with SnagIT, Libguides, Kaltura, and Captivate is preferred.

• One to three years of relevant reference librarian experience in an academic library is preferred.
