This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Deliver strategic legal advice that is calibrated for risk to business leaders.
• Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Design, and Technology teams throughout the entire product lifecycle.
• Provide guidance to product teams on legal, regulatory, privacy, and security challenges.
• Acquire in-depth knowledge of Coupa’s software, hardware, AI, and data offerings.
• Evaluate product features, marketing content, customer communications, and external materials.
• Strengthen the compliance program, including initiatives for privacy and AI governance.
• Create scalable policies, training materials, and compliance resources.
• Draft and negotiate partnership agreements related to products.
• Draft and negotiate terms of use and agreements with third parties.
• Simplify complex legal and regulatory matters into actionable business insights.
• Work together with Regulatory and Commercial Counsel on cross-functional agreements.
• Develop playbooks, frequently asked questions, standard positions, and templates.
• Report directly to the VP, Legal.
• Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and the legal team.
• Over 6 years of relevant legal experience, preferably with significant commercial and/or product counseling.
• In-house experience at a rapidly growing B2B technology firm.
• Licensed to practice law in your respective state or province.
• Willingness to work within the EST time zone.
• Familiarity with AI technology and its associated legal risks.
• Knowledge of cloud infrastructure, APIs, and open-source principles.
• Strong grasp of the global regulatory landscape.
• Experience with the application of the EU AI Act and EU Data Act is highly preferred.
• Proven track record in negotiating commercial agreements.
• Ability to collaborate with technical teams on innovative issues at the intersection of software, hardware, and climate technology.
• Excellent judgment in risk assessment and mitigation.
• Strong communication and relationship-building abilities.
