Legal & Commercial Adviser – Maternity Cover

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Conduct research and offer practical commercial and legal counsel to BESA members.

• Assist members in making well-informed commercial decisions regarding contracting risks and facilitate the resolution of disputes outside formal court settings.

• Advocate for the needs and interests of BESA members to external stakeholders.

• Provide commercial advice, support, and guidance to various departments and divisions within the BESA Group.

• Participate in and present at national and regional meetings, including delivering lectures on commercial, legal, or contractual topics.

• Prepare agendas, minutes, and relevant documents for BESA committees and participate in committee meetings.

• Engage in legal or commercial project work for the BESA Group.

• Handle multiple tasks and projects with competing priorities from both internal and member sources.

• Assist in crafting responses to external consultations that impact members as needed.


⛳️ Requirements

• Qualified legal professional with at least 1 year of post-qualification experience.

• Experience in providing advice on both standard and non-standard construction contracts.

• Strong understanding of the UK construction sector.

• Familiarity with the legal framework influencing construction contracts.

• Knowledge of commercial contracts.

• Excellent legal research abilities.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Proficient in IT and familiar with Microsoft Office applications.

• Ability to effectively communicate with industry participants, including BESA members.

• Capability to work collaboratively within a small, dynamic professional team and across a broader corporate group.

• Self-driven with the ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities.

• Flexible attitude and willingness to embrace new challenges.

• Commercial acumen.

• Demonstrated enthusiasm, decision-making skills, initiative, and the ability to take proactive measures.

• Commitment to exceeding the needs of internal and external stakeholders.

• Desirable: experience that encompasses both contentious and non-contentious matters.

• Desirable: knowledge and practical skills in managing corporate group issues.

• Part-time candidates must be available to work a minimum of 21 hours per week across three days.
