Lead Tool Tech Mechanic

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona.

📋 Description

• Serve as the primary technical expert for Nextracker installation tooling, tool-support workshops, and field deployment operations.

• Organize, plan, and implement the delivery, setup, commissioning, calibration, relocation, and demobilization of tool-support workshops and associated field equipment.

• Diagnose and address complex mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, pneumatic, and controls-related issues.

• Convert tooling schematics, product documentation, service manuals, and safe operating procedures into actionable field instructions and corrective measures.

• Develop, review, and uphold Job Hazard Analyses, site-specific safety plans, method statements, inspection records, and EH&S documentation.

• Oversee field tool-support initiatives in collaboration with owners, customers, subcontractors, construction teams, Field Operations, Engineering, Service, and management.

• Anticipate tooling requirements, construction timelines, site specifications, staffing needs, equipment accessibility, and documentation priorities.

• Offer technical guidance, coaching, and training on tool setup, safe operation, calibration, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and best practices for installation.

• Create and enhance preventive-maintenance practices, troubleshooting manuals, inspection checklists, training materials, and standard operating procedures.

• Record field observations, failure trends, corrective actions, and lessons learned, and relay recommendations to Engineering, Product, Quality, Service, and Operations.

• Keep service records, parts usage, tool inventories, calibration logs, repair documentation, and customer communications organized.

• Weigh safety, quality, scheduling, customer obligations, and costs when making decisions regarding field actions.

• Advocate for safe work practices and ensure compliance with federal, state, local, customer, and Nextracker EH&S standards.

• Execute related responsibilities and travel to customer and construction sites as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Technology, Construction Management, Maintenance Technology, or a related technical field preferred.

• Over 5 years of progressively responsible experience in supporting installation tooling, construction equipment, industrial equipment, field service, equipment maintenance, or a similar technical environment.

• Advanced knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and electro-mechanical systems.

• Proficient in reading and applying schematics and technical documentation.

• Experienced in troubleshooting intricate equipment issues, identifying root causes, and implementing safe and effective corrective actions.

• Proven experience in independently leading technical assignments at active construction, manufacturing, industrial, or client sites with evolving priorities and minimal supervision.

• Background in developing or delivering technical training and mentoring less-experienced technicians.

• Familiarity with field safety practices, Job Hazard Analyses, equipment inspections, lockout/tagout procedures, and relevant EH&S regulations.

• Competent in using Microsoft Office applications.

• Ability to maintain precise service records, inventory logs, maintenance reports, and project documentation.

• Skill in establishing and sustaining effective relationships with customers, subcontractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders.

• Capability to influence decisions and resolve challenging field issues.

• Willingness to travel up to 100% as required.

• Flexibility to work extended or non-standard hours when necessary to support active construction sites.

• Preferred: experience with solar tracker installation tools, torque/tensioning equipment, hydraulic power units, electrical controls, calibration systems, or related renewable-energy construction equipment.

• Preferred: experience with forklifts, reach forklifts, skid steers or Bobcats, scissor lifts, aerial work platforms, laser levels, transits, and other construction or material-handling machinery.

• Preferred: current or prior certifications for forklift operation, aerial lift usage, OSHA/authorized safety training, first aid/CPR, or similar equipment and site-safety training programs.

• Preferred: experience in supporting multi-site deployments, customer-facing field service initiatives, new tool introductions, or equipment standardization projects.

• Preferred: experience with maintenance management, service ticketing, inventory, calibration, or enterprise documentation systems.
