This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.
β’ Establish the technical direction for the Data Platform ingest team.
β’ Take ownership of architectural and design choices for high-throughput distributed systems.
β’ Guide engineers in tackling complex problems.
β’ Mentor and develop engineers through code reviews, technical feedback, and career guidance.
β’ Collaborate with product and partner teams to translate roadmap priorities into actionable technical plans.
β’ Serve as the team's technical representative and contribute to shared standards and resources.
β’ Analyze performance, maintainability, and operational cost trade-offs for ingest systems.
β’ Define, estimate, and oversee complex multi-engineer projects from design to general availability.
β’ Assess and integrate tools, patterns, technologies, and effective LLM-assisted development practices.
β’ Regularly write and deploy production code.
β’ Communicate technical risks and trade-offs to relevant stakeholders.
β’ Manage operational health, including CI/CD, observability, and incident response.
β’ Identify and resolve gaps in tools, documentation, and team coverage.
β’ Develop and manage Kubernetes-based Java services utilizing Kafka and a cell-based architecture, processing millions of messages per second and petabytes of data.
β’ 7β10 years of professional software engineering experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership or technical lead role for a team or significant initiative.
β’ Strong proficiency in Java or a similar OOP language, with the capability to quickly adapt to other languages and frameworks.
β’ Proven experience running stateful distributed services in production under variable load conditions.
β’ Skilled in debugging intricate failure states and leading incident remediation efforts.
β’ Experience in conducting architecture and design reviews for complex systems.
β’ Practical experience with cloud infrastructure.
β’ Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Argo CD.
β’ Knowledge of event-driven architectures like Kafka.
β’ Experience with container orchestration technologies such as Kubernetes.
β’ Expertise in data modeling and query optimization for large-scale relational databases.
β’ A history of mentoring engineers and providing feedback that enhances team performance.
β’ Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present a technical case to non-technical stakeholders.
