Lead Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Join a portfolio company as its lead engineer on a full-time basis and contribute to its growth.

• Engage in daily coding activities and mentor surrounding engineers to enhance their programming skills.

• Familiarize yourself with the company's technology stack, work within the codebase, and deliver functional software to customers promptly and consistently.

• Modernize the software development lifecycle by implementing CI, tests, staging, feature flags, deployable solutions for anyone, and coding agents.

• Provide coaching to the existing engineers at the portfolio company.

• Collaborate with the General Manager to define the product roadmap and manage trade-offs effectively.

• Implement coding-agent workflows to transform tasks that previously took weeks into days.

• Deploy AI capabilities in production products, including retrieval, tool utilization, evaluations, and guardrails.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of experience in software engineering, including roles such as tech lead, founding engineer, or CTO of a small company, or being the sole engineer maintaining a product.

• Proven production software development experience across at least three distinct technology stacks.

• Proficiency in learning and working with various stacks, including .NET, Rails, Python, TypeScript, Oracle, PHP, and others.

• Experience in taking over a disorganized codebase and motivating a discouraged team.

• Daily user of coding agents with the ability to showcase their setup.

• Capable of working directly with General Managers, operators, and customers.

• Able to exercise independent judgment without requiring daily supervision.

• Bonus: Experience as the first engineering leader at a company lacking prior engineering leadership.

• Bonus: Experience in vertical or B2B SaaS, particularly where buyers and users are distinct individuals.

• Bonus: Background in modernizing a legacy codebase without resorting to a complete rewrite.
