Lead Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Become the lead engineer at one of the Beacon portfolio companies and drive its growth.

• Familiarize yourself with the company's technology stack, contribute to the codebase, and deliver functional software to customers frequently.

• Enhance the software development lifecycle by implementing CI, testing, staging, feature flags, deploy-anyone-can-run workflows, and coding agents.

• Mentor current engineers and elevate their engineering methodologies.

• Collaborate with the general manager to establish the roadmap and manage trade-offs.

• Introduce workflows utilizing coding agents to speed up delivery and educate the team on their use.

• Integrate AI functionalities into products, such as retrieval, tool integration, evaluations, and production guardrails.

• Engage in daily coding activities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of experience in software engineering.

• Proven background as a tech lead, founding engineer, CTO of a small firm, or as the sole engineer maintaining a product.

• Demonstrated experience in shipping production code across at least three distinct technology stacks.

• Proficient in learning and working with .NET, Rails, Python, TypeScript, Oracle, PHP, and additional technology stacks.

• Experience in taking over disorganized codebases and revitalizing discouraged teams.

• Daily user of coding agents, with the capability to showcase their configuration.

• Strong ability to collaborate directly with general managers, operators, and customers.

• Capacity to work autonomously while exercising sound judgment.

• Experience in vertical or B2B SaaS environments, particularly where the buyer and user roles differ (bonus).

• Background in modernizing a legacy codebase without necessitating a rewrite (bonus).

• Experience as the inaugural engineering leader at a company that previously lacked one (bonus).
