Lead Software Engineer, AI Email Applications, Artificial Intelligence

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Take charge of the application engineering strategy and its implementation across backend, mobile, and desktop platforms.

• Create dependable systems for AI-driven workflows, encompassing state management, orchestration, tool utilization, retries, fallbacks, and failure management.

• Develop APIs and abstractions that bridge AI systems with real-world product experiences.

• Guide a small, senior engineering team through design and code reviews while providing hands-on mentorship.

• Make impactful trade-offs related to latency, reliability, cost, security, and user experience.

• Set up production foundations that include observability, monitoring, testing, and operational excellence.

• Collaborate with Machine Learning leadership to convert model capabilities into robust, deployable product experiences.

• Maintain architecture that is simple, maintainable, and scalable.

• Ensure that production systems are observable, monitored, and stable under real-world conditions.

• Continuously enhance latency and reliability in measurable ways over time.

⛳️ Requirements

• Experience in Artificial Intelligence (AI) is mandatory.

• Extensive experience in leading application or product engineering for complex systems.

• Strong hands-on experience in building and deploying backend systems that are utilized in production.

• Proven experience in developing AI-powered products or systems that integrate with modern Machine Learning (ML)/Large Language Model (LLM) capabilities.

• Excellent technical judgment and the capacity to make informed decisions with incomplete data.

• Comfortable working across backend and client platforms, with deep expertise in at least one of them.

• Strong inclination towards ownership, product delivery, and learning from real-world usage.

• High standards for code quality, reliability, and engineering principles.

• Must be prepared to complete a 60-minute coding assessment.
