Lead Research Associate, Sustainability

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Oversee research initiatives employing both quantitative and qualitative methodologies.

• Drive new business opportunities by pinpointing prospects, crafting pitches and proposals, and solidifying strategies for stakeholder engagement.

• Guide the execution and completion of project deliverables.

• Provide leadership and management to direct reports, including research associates.

• Innovate new research concepts, methodologies, and strategies to enhance research impact.

• Offer subject matter expertise during client interactions and business development efforts.

• Spearhead content creation, manage stakeholder relationships, identify speakers, pursue sponsorships, and oversee event delivery for sustainability-focused roundtables and gatherings.

• Assist in strategies aimed at membership growth and retention for the Strategic Resilience and Emergency Management Council.

• Exhibit collaboration, ownership, excellence, evidence, passion, and integrity in all work and client engagements.

⛳️ Requirements

• PhD or Master's degree in disaster science, actuarial science, geoinformatics, emergency management, climate adaptation, or related fields.

• Extensive knowledge of disaster insurance models, reinsurance, disaster financial instruments, and new innovations in disaster finance.

• Comprehension of the interdependencies among social, institutional, and infrastructure capacities in disaster resilience.

• Insight into practical and location-based disaster resilience and climate adaptation strategies at community and household levels.

• Proficiency in analyzing environmental, economic, and social policies and their effects on disaster resilience and climate adaptation in Canada.

• Advanced MS Excel skills for analyzing and effectively communicating trends in large data sets.

• Exceptional writing skills.

• Strong presentation and communication abilities.

• Proven leadership in project management.

• Track record of managing multiple tasks, deadlines, and deliverables successfully.

• Willingness to travel within Canada for client and team meetings as necessary.

• A productive, professional, and safe home office equipped with internet service and a reliable connection.

• Competency in climate hazard modeling is a plus.

• Knowledge of disaster governance and regulatory frameworks is an asset.

• Proficiency with GIS tools such as QGIS is an asset.

• Familiarity with qualitative and textual analysis tools such as NVivo is an asset.

• Experience in organizing and chairing convenings is a valuable asset.
