Lead Relay Field Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Calibrate, install, maintain, and repair protective relays and related equipment.

• Maintain, install, troubleshoot, and repair intricate control systems, protective relay systems, substation and electric utility protection systems, and SCADA systems.

• Plan commissioning processes and resource allocation based on project-level scopes of work.

• Provide leadership to the team during testing activities while strictly following safety protocols.

• Interpret substation schematics, including single-line drawings, AC/DC diagrams, panel wiring layouts, and panel layout drawings.

• Develop maintenance and construction procedures and testing plans.

• Create isolation strategies and functional guidelines.

• Test relay voltage and current inputs, metering, alarms, function switches, as well as local and SCADA trip operations.

• Troubleshoot and repair substation relaying and control systems.

• Commission new substations, power equipment, relaying, pilot channel systems, controls, and communication tools.

• Offer technical support to Field Service personnel on projects.

• Mentor junior field service staff.

• Act as a subject matter expert in protective relaying.

• Serve as the technical lead for small project teams.

⛳️ Requirements

• At least 5 years of field experience in commissioning, panel and equipment checkout, relay calibration, testing, and repairing substation relaying and control schemes.

• Desirable experience in substation design, construction, commissioning, or SCADA/Fault Data/SER/Integration-Automation equipment installation and testing.

• Knowledge of three-phase power systems along with power system protection and control schemes.

• Familiarity with test equipment and related software.

• Proficient in the use of test equipment, tools, and wiring.

• Capability to interpret wiring and elementary diagrams.

• Basic testing skills to carry out the listed responsibilities.

• Basic computer skills.

• Ability to quickly learn and implement test procedures for various substation equipment types.

• Effective communication skills with diverse groups, adapting communication to suit the audience and context.

• Willingness to learn and apply client-specific switching procedures and safety protocols.

• Capability to reference and complete tasks as outlined in relevant specifications.

• Ability to perform regular fieldwork in both indoor and outdoor environments.

• Strong interpersonal, communication, business acumen, and management abilities.

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.

• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.

• Proficient in English communication, both written and verbal.
