This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Create protection schemes for transmission and distribution substations, data centers, industrial facilities, and battery energy storage systems, including one-line, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, and relay configurations.
• Lead design teams, either locally or remotely, in the development of panel and interconnection wiring, panel layouts, and elevations.
• Assess interoperability, control features, and communication/protocol aspects of Intelligent Electronic Device (IED) protection relays.
• Integrate SCADA, cybersecurity, telecommunications, protection, control, and monitoring systems effectively.
• Employ IEC 61850 process and system bus architecture within substations.
• Collaborate with SCADA, physical, and control design engineers for seamless system integration.
• Oversee project specifications, manage cost control, and ensure adherence to schedule objectives.
• Interface with lead engineers, project engineers, designers, draftsmen, project managers, sourcing teams, and support organizations.
• Review load flow, fault analysis, relay coordination, and transient studies.
• Educate end-users on the theory, operation, and maintenance of protection and control systems.
• Lead or assist in factory acceptance testing as well as site testing and commissioning activities.
• Develop procedures for outages, cut-overs, and testing operations.
• Define processes, conduct root cause analyses, implement corrective actions, and validate process control measures.
• Support quality initiatives, including activities related to ISO9002.
• Generate proposals, technical specifications, design-hour and material estimates, vendor quotations, clarifications, exceptions, technical responses, and validations.
• May act as project engineer for smaller to medium-sized projects focused on secondary engineering.
• Continuously enhance technical knowledge to address grid-transition requirements.
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
• At least 5 years of experience in engineering.
• Minimum of 3 years in protection and controls engineering specifically for substations or power generation.
• Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of the time, including international assignments.
• Ability to adhere to company travel and tax regulations.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.
• Extensive experience in protective relaying coordination and related practices.
• Familiarity with circuit breakers, fuses, circuit switchers, transformers, shunt reactors, capacitor banks, harmonic filters, HVDC, and FACTS systems.
• Proficient in English.
• Experience in resolving technical problems effectively.
• Expertise in secondary engineering discipline processes, tools, and technical details.
• P.E. License or Engineer in Training (EIT) with a commitment to obtain P.E. certification, or P.Eng. with a willingness to acquire certification.
