Lead Physical Access Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee a team of engineers dedicated to Canary's Physical Access product, which includes Mobile Key and lock-vendor integrations.

• Serve as a role model as an Individual Contributor (IC) by demonstrating high-quality and efficient code delivery.

• Take ownership of the system architecture and its development related to mobile-key issuance, lock-vendor integrations, and the encoder/BLE pathways that facilitate door unlocking.

• Foster measurable advancements in unlock reliability, latency, and vendor coverage by gaining deep insights into how hotels and guests utilize the product.

• Collaborate closely with Product Managers to shape the roadmap and prioritize initiatives for the Physical Access domain.

• Independently mentor and guide engineers in the team, develop engineering execution plans, decompose tasks, and allocate them across the group.

• Manage your team members directly, conducting one-on-one meetings, performance evaluations, and team ceremonies to ensure the well-being of the pod and its individuals.

• Operate pod processes independently, escalating issues as necessary.

• Engage in the hiring and interviewing process for the Physical Access team and the wider engineering organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• 8+ years of robust engineering experience.

• 2+ years of demonstrated success in managing effective engineering teams.

• Strong expertise in developing backend applications.

• Practical experience with integrating third-party hardware or vendor APIs, such as IoT, access control, payments, telephony, or related fields.

• Proven ability to deliver high-quality products that function reliably at scale.

• Self-driven, collaborative, and possess a strong work ethic.

• Excellent communication skills, with a passion for being part of a diverse team, building consensus, and establishing credibility.

• Comfortable navigating ambiguity and eager to take on ownership and accountability.

• Bonus: experience with mobile platforms (iOS/Android), BLE/NFC, or hardware/lock-vendor integrations.
