This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Develop protection schemes for transmission and distribution substations, data centers, industrial applications, and battery energy storage systems (BESS), including single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, AC/DC schematics, and relay configurations.
• Lead design teams, either local or remote, in creating panel and interconnect wiring, panel layouts, and elevations.
• Assess the interoperability of Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), control functionalities, and communication/protocol features to provide integrated solutions that encompass SCADA, cybersecurity, and telecommunications.
• Implement IEC 61850 process and system bus architecture within substations.
• Collaborate with SCADA, physical substation, and control design engineers to ensure seamless system integration.
• Achieve project delivery in alignment with specifications, budgetary constraints, and timelines.
• Engage with engineering, design, project management, sourcing, and support teams.
• Analyze load flow, fault, relay coordination, and transient studies.
• Educate end-users on integrated protection and control systems.
• Lead or assist with factory acceptance testing and site testing/commissioning processes.
• Create outage, cut-over, and testing protocols.
• Establish processes, conduct root cause analyses and corrective actions, and validate process controls.
• Contribute to ISO9002 quality initiatives.
• Prepare proposals, technical specifications, design-hour and material estimates, vendor quotation support, clarifications, exceptions, and technical responses.
• Potentially act as project engineer for small- to medium-sized projects focused on secondary engineering.
• Regularly refresh technical knowledge to meet the evolving needs of grid transition.
• Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution.
• At least 7 years of engineering experience.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in protection and controls engineering for substations or power generation.
• Willingness to travel up to 20% of the time, including internationally.
• Ability to adhere to company travel and tax regulations.
• Legally authorized to work in the United States.
• P.E. License or EIT with a commitment to pursue and obtain P.E. certification, or P.Eng with a readiness to gain certification.
• Significant experience in protective relaying coordination and practices.
• Knowledge of circuit breakers, fuses, circuit switchers, transformers, shunt reactors, capacitor banks, harmonic filters, HVDC, and FACTS systems.
• Proficient in English.
• Exceptional influencing and relationship-building abilities.
• Proven presentation skills with the capability to convey complex concepts clearly.
• Experience in resolving technical problems.
• Mastery in secondary engineering disciplines, including relevant processes, tools, and technical aspects.
