Lead Mechanical Engineer, Nuclear Plant Analysis

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Develop and oversee evaluations of licensing basis systems and components for nuclear power uprate initiatives.

• Execute consulting-level tasks related to power uprates within the nuclear sector.

• Prepare and review calculations concerning heat balances, power train pumps, heat exchangers, condenser/heat sink, and plant hazards.

• Create task reports and equipment assessments that convey technical information in a clear and concise manner.

• Conduct equipment sizing, optimization assessments, and selection for proposed power uprates.

• Collaborate with clients and project teams to facilitate technical discussions and provide project updates.

• Develop engineering proposals and create cost estimates.

• Lead and mentor junior engineering personnel on tasks related to power plant engineering.

• Perform independent reviews of calculations and drawing preparations.

• Participate in client meetings and site walkdowns to confirm project scope and ensure client satisfaction.

• Spearhead engineering problem-solving efforts and the integration of automation and AI tools to enhance workflows and minimize rework.

• Supervise engineers in programming or scripting in Python, MATLAB, or advanced Excel to automate engineering tasks, while reviewing the generated automated outputs.

• Provide guidance on the appropriate use of AI or agentic AI tools and ensure the accuracy of results.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) from an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program, demonstrating a strong academic foundation and an interest in thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid mechanics.

• A minimum of 12 years of experience in the nuclear power sector.

• Proven experience with nuclear power uprates and/or turbine retrofit initiatives.

• Practical knowledge and experience in one or more areas: balance of plant system and component evaluations; pinch point assessments and/or task reports; heat balance; power train pumps, heat exchangers, condenser/heat sink; circulating water and ultimate heat sinks.

• Exceptional technical report writing abilities.

• Understanding of the practical application of mechanical engineering and technology in project design.

• Strong enthusiasm for numerical computations and problem-solving.

• Familiarity with codes, standards, and regulations pertinent to mechanical engineering design in nuclear power plants.

• Proficient in MS Office applications.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Must not require U.S. work authorization sponsorship.

• Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering (MSME) from an ABET accredited program (preferred but not mandatory).

• Professional Engineer (PE) License (preferred but not mandatory).
