This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Establish the technical direction for a cloud-native platform based on AWS, integrating data and services from various domains.
• Define architectural and engineering standards throughout the platform.
• Guide multiple engineers and teams towards a unified technical vision.
• Represent the platform's technical strategy to stakeholders across different functions and domains.
• Develop a comprehensive technical strategy for the platform, aligning with business processes and the domains supported by the BAWP UI.
• Assess complex feature requests across teams, estimate required effort, and lead technical planning efforts.
• Define, document, and refine architectural patterns and API agreements.
• Conduct peer code and design reviews across various teams.
• Design and construct scalable, secure full-stack solutions utilizing React with TypeScript and AWS-native services.
• Create APIs and data integration layers that accommodate latency, partial failures, and caching.
• Develop reusable front-end components and shared modules employing micro-frontend or similar patterns.
• Architect and implement cloud-native solutions on AWS.
• Set standards for automation, observability, monitoring, telemetry, and operational readiness.
• Ensure the scalability, data integrity, security, availability, and reliability of the platform.
• Take ownership of the automated end-to-end and UI testing strategy.
• Drive performance enhancements and establish performance benchmarks.
• Address complex technical challenges and enhance system design.
• Mentor engineers, including those at the senior level.
• Assess and integrate cloud, front-end, and test automation technologies.
• Communicate the technical strategy, trade-offs, and architectural decisions effectively.
• Collaborate with product, operations, security, QA, and domain teams.
• Lead initiatives for platform readiness, documentation, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
• Integrate automated testing within CI/CD pipelines.
• Promote ownership, accountability, and ongoing improvement throughout the engineering team.
• Over 8 years of experience in designing, building, and supporting scalable, cloud-native full-stack applications.
• More than 5 years of experience in developing modern front-end applications using TypeScript and React.
• Proven ability to set technical direction and standards across multiple teams or platforms.
• Hands-on experience with Node.js, preferably TypeScript, in building APIs and data integration layers at scale.
• Extensive experience with AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, SNS, SQS, S3, Step Functions, EC2, ECS, VPC, IAM, CloudWatch, and DynamoDB.
• Experience in integrating and consolidating data and content from various independent backend/domain services into a unified UI.
• Strong understanding of distributed cloud infrastructure and microservices architecture.
• Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code, including AWS CDK, CloudFormation, GitHub Actions, and Backstage.
• Experience in creating responsive, secure, high-performance UIs using React, TypeScript, HTML, and CSS.
• Knowledge of micro-frontend architectures such as Module Federation and shared shell/component patterns.
• Experience in establishing automated end-to-end and UI testing frameworks and integrating them into CI/CD pipelines.
• Careful in peer code reviews, especially regarding the correctness, security, and maintainability of AI-generated code.
• Ability to mentor senior engineers and influence technical direction in the absence of direct management authority.
• Strong emphasis on scalability, data integrity, reliability, and quality engineering practices.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
• Capability to lead complex, cross-team projects in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
• Authorization to work in the United States for any employer.

• Option to work fully remote or hybrid for candidates residing near College Board offices (Tuesday and Wednesday in office).
