Lead Field Service Engineer – Drives

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the complete commissioning process of advanced drive systems and power electronics.

• Ensure seamless integration with shipboard power management and propulsion systems.

• Diagnose MV/LV drive systems, rectifiers, and inverters utilizing oscilloscopes and diagnostic software.

• Evaluate firing pulses, gate signals, and control logic.

• Validate communication protocols such as Profibus, Modbus, and IEC 61850.

• Optimize speed, torque, and current control loops within multi-drive configurations.

• Perform diagnostic investigations at site locations, during port visits, or at sea.

• Address ongoing technical challenges with evidence-based corrective measures.

• Educate naval and commercial clients on system operations, optimization, and preventative maintenance.

• Identify prospects for service, spare parts, and system enhancements.

• Execute tasks in accordance with departmental policies, safety protocols, and maritime regulatory requirements.

• Maintain comprehensive service records, technical documentation, and diagnostic logs.

• Comply with maritime safety, naval security, environmental health, and safety regulations.

• Act as the primary technical authority and final escalation point for complex drive system issues.

• Connect field operations with design engineering to lead troubleshooting efforts and establish commissioning standards.

• Promote systemic improvements in equipment reliability and performance.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution, with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in commissioning environments involving LV/MV drive and control systems; OR Associate’s Degree with a minimum of 7 years of relevant commissioning experience; OR High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of 10 years of relevant commissioning experience.

• US Person with the capability to acquire and maintain security clearance for Department of Defense (DoD) projects.

• Willingness and ability to travel up to 85% of the time, often on short notice.

• Physically fit to board vessels offshore.

• Must successfully complete Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET).

• Proven expertise in diagnosing complex drive system failures and troubleshooting.

• Competency with Digital Storage Oscilloscope, 5kV/10kV Megohmmeter, Micro-Ohmmeter (Ductor), Power Quality Analyzer, and True-RMS Multimeters.

• Strong technical skills in MS Office and relevant diagnostic software.

• Ability to independently prioritize tasks across weekly, monthly, and quarterly timelines.

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills with both internal engineering teams and external customer stakeholders.

• Commitment to maintaining high personal and professional ethical standards.

• Capability to work in wet/humid environments, around moving mechanical parts, extreme temperatures, electrical shock hazards, as well as risks of trips, slips, falls, excessive noise, and required PPE.

• Legally authorized to work in the United States.
