Lead Field Service Engineer – Automation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the complete installation, loop testing, and commissioning of integrated Marine Automation and Dynamic Positioning systems.

• Identify, isolate, and resolve critical hardware and software issues in high-pressure settings.

• Direct on-site technical operations and mentor junior engineers and contractors.

• Implement integrations between Power Management Systems and automation platforms.

• Ensure synchronization and optimal load-sharing performance.

• Deliver technical briefings to vessel crews, shipyards, and superintendents.

• Record field activities and document lessons learned.

• Generate service reports for internal engineering teams and future service enhancements.

• Comply with maritime safety protocols, naval security regulations, and EHS standards in confined shipboard settings.

• Operate in environments that may include wet/humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, extreme temperatures, electrical hazards, tripping, slipping, falling, and excessive noise while utilizing required PPE.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution, along with a minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in commissioning environments involving automation and DP systems; OR an Associate’s Degree with at least 7 years of relevant commissioning experience; OR a High School Diploma/GED with a minimum of 10 years of relevant commissioning experience.

• Willingness and ability to travel up to 85% of the time, often on short notice.

• Must possess the physical fitness required to board offshore vessels.

• Capable of passing the Basic Offshore Safety Induction and Emergency Training (BOSIET).

• Advanced skills in configuration, programming, and troubleshooting of PLC/DCS systems.

• Practical experience with DP system integration, sensor interfacing (MRU, DGPS, Gyros), and thruster control logic.

• Proficient in PROFINET, Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC UA, EtherNet/IP, and marine fieldbus troubleshooting.

• Understanding of Power Management Systems (PMS), generator control, synchronization, and load-sharing logic.

• Competence in ladder logic, function block diagramming, and structured text.

• Ability to utilize diagnostic software and oscilloscopes to trace signal integrity and communication errors.

• Familiar with IMO regulations, ABS/DNV class rules, and cybersecurity standards for maritime control systems.

• Capable of working independently in remote or offshore environments with minimal supervision.

• Legally authorized to work in the United States.

• Successful completion of a drug screening, if applicable.
