Lead Engineer – Thermal Dynamics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Utah.

📋 Description

• Support the System Engineer in crafting the program’s system architecture and technical strategy.

• Conduct thermal and controls analysis, testing, and evaluation for system model correlation and adherence to performance requirements.

• Identify and manage technical risks associated with thermal performance within the program.

• Act as the technical lead for modeling and analysis efforts.

• Establish measurable and achievable objectives, coordinating modeling and analysis activities with engineering functional teams.

• Collaborate with the Systems Engineer and Program Manager to implement modeling, analysis, and testing development.

• Oversee thermal and performance technical requirements.

• Assist in requirements traceability, decomposition, derivation, verification, and validation processes.

• Break down high-level requirements into detailed specifications for internal teams, components, and suppliers.

• Investigate and suggest enhancements to technology, methodologies, tools, procedures, equipment, and systems.

• Engage and collaborate with customers and suppliers throughout the design development process.

• Review and sanction documentation for the transition from prototype to production.

• Provide engineering support for troubleshooting and diagnosing non-performing products.

• Conduct root-cause corrective action analysis and document lessons learned.

• Perform additional duties as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution and 8–10 years of relevant experience.

• Relevant advanced degrees, such as an MS or PhD, may fulfill part of the industry experience requirement.

• Proficient in aerospace technical disciplines, including requirements management, technical verification and validation, mechanical design, materials, modeling/documentation, structural analysis, electrical systems, system controls, embedded controls, development testing and analysis, as well as qualification analysis and testing.

• Extensive knowledge in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, and heat transfer.

• Experience in thermal fluid systems analysis and modeling.

• Understanding of nonlinear, gradient, and gradient-free numerical iterative solvers and optimization methods.

• Familiarity with aerospace requirements management methodologies and processes.

• Functional comprehension of major aircraft systems, such as environmental control systems, powerplant, electrical, hydraulics, controls, avionics, power generation, and structures.

• Experience with Vapor Cycle Systems, Liquid Cooling Systems, and/or Air Cycle Systems.

• Modeling expertise with standard components in VCS, LCS, and ACS.

• Knowledge of environmental testing and qualification standards like MIL-STD-810 and DO-160.

• Basic CAD proficiency in NX.

• Strong coding/scripting skills, preferably in MATLAB/Simulink or Python.

• Expertise in building, utilizing, correlating, and maintaining steady-state and dynamic system models, as well as designing high-level controls.

• Excellent oral and written communication abilities.

• Capability to document, plan, promote, and execute programs.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the United States.

• Must be able to demonstrate U.S. Person status to access U.S. export-controlled information.
