Lead Engineer, Grid Integration

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Ensure coordination between the customer, Project Engineering, and Software teams in executing Energy Management System (EMS), Power Plant Controller (PPC), and SCADA functionalities throughout projects.

• Create Project Control & Communication Specifications, outlining point lists, control behaviors, high-level network architecture, and interface requirements for EMS and PPC.

• Evaluate control system designs to confirm adherence to project requirements, ISO/RTO standards, and grid interconnection specifications.

• Provide guidance to Software Development and Product Management teams regarding customer-driven feature requirements and insights gained from field projects.

• Act as a subject-matter expert on Modbus, DNP3, and other related protocols utilized in grid-scale power systems.

• Stay informed about ISO/RTO telemetry, AGC, and dispatch requirements (e.g., ERCOT, CAISO) to ensure project compliance.

• Assist in the development of internal standards, templates, and testing procedures for project control and telemetry.

• Mentor engineers and facilitate knowledge sharing on controls architecture, communication design, and system modeling.

• Aid in the development of standard processes and enhancements to streamline communication of project control and telemetry requirements between teams.

• Review PPA/LGIAs to ensure compliance, creating software specifications as necessary.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Computer, or Controls Engineering.

• Over 5 years of experience in control systems, SCADA, or power plant automation (BESS, renewables, or conventional generation).

• Comprehensive understanding of BESS control, EMS, and PPC functionalities, including dispatch modes, grid services, and telemetry.

• Expertise in power system communication protocols (Modbus, DNP3) and network architectures for plant control.

• Familiarity with ISO/RTO telemetry and control specifications for grid-connected assets.

• Experience working with software engineering teams to convert system requirements into software features or integration logic.

• Excellent communication skills for interacting with customers, utilities, and multidisciplinary teams.
