This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Oregon.
• Provide support to a AAA development partner on an Unreal Engine project.
• Establish solid working relationships with partner engineers and engineering leadership.
• Convert partner priorities into scoped tasks and manage estimates and assignments across external studios.
• Ensure alignment between partner and external studio teams through effective communication, documentation, and coordination across time zones.
• Evaluate technical designs, code, and in-game outcomes for correctness, maintainability, performance, and consistency with expectations.
• Facilitate technical discussions across studios, clarify requirements, resolve queries, and guide decision-making.
• Monitor progress, identify blockers, and assess delivery risks; address concerns with the partner and production team.
• Oversee the integration and testing of engineering, design, animation, art, production, and QA.
• Share leadership duties with the Pipeworks project engineering lead.
• Investigate complex technical challenges and offer hands-on support to resolve issues while prioritizing partner collaboration and technical oversight.
• Clear, direct, and professional communication skills, including the ability to lead client-facing technical discussions, manage expectations, and articulate risks and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical collaborators.
• Proven engineering leadership on intricate game projects, showcasing effective delegation, coordination, and accountability for team deliverables.
• Capability to operate within a development partner’s established priorities, technical direction, codebase, and processes.
• Extensive hands-on experience with Unreal Engine and strong proficiency in C++ within large production codebases.
• Strong technical judgment, debugging, and code-review abilities, with comprehensive knowledge of game engineering and deep expertise in at least one area.
• Ability to swiftly grasp unfamiliar projects, identify ambiguities and dependencies, and transform incomplete information into clear questions and actionable next steps.
• Effective organization and follow-through with distributed teams.
• At least one shipped commercial game or another significant production release is preferred.
• A degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field is beneficial but not mandatory if equivalent professional experience is demonstrated.
• Substantial professional experience in game engineering, including technical leadership and coordination of complex engineering initiatives.
• Experience in AAA co-development or another client-facing engineering leadership position.
• Experience in coordinating multiple external studios or international engineering teams across time zones.
• Experience in gameplay and character animation programming.
• Experience in supporting late-production integration, bug fixing, and release stabilization.
• Experience working directly with designers and animators to refine gameplay and character animation systems.
