This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Direct the planning, design, and execution of electrical substation projects ranging from 12 kV to 500 kV.
• Act as the Professional-of-Record (PoR), ensuring technical precision, quality, and compliance of design outputs.
• Provide technical leadership and oversight for substation design tasks, including layouts, station service systems, and equipment selection.
• Lead the creation, review, and approval of one-line and phasing diagrams, substation layouts, sections, equipment arrangements, grounding/grid designs and studies, as well as conduit and cable routing designs.
• Supervise and evaluate advanced engineering analyses, including grounding, lightning protection, insulation coordination, and bus design.
• Develop and endorse design criteria, specifications, reports, and construction packages.
• Serve as the main technical liaison with clients, utilities, and stakeholders, aiding in business development and project implementation.
• Facilitate client meetings, technical workshops, and design evaluations, including constructability and risk assessments.
• Offer mentorship, guidance, and technical direction to engineers, EITs, and designers.
• Review and approve vendor drawings and technical submissions.
• Provide senior engineering assistance during construction, including site reviews, addressing RFIs, and resolving intricate technical challenges.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure cohesive designs.
• Ensure projects are completed within scope, timeline, and budget while upholding high-quality standards.
• Advocate for safety-by-design principles, quality assurance, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Prepare estimates and proposals based on RFQ specifications.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
• Registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada (registration in Newfoundland and Labrador or capability to obtain).
• 10–15 years of experience in transmission & distribution, with a robust emphasis on substation design.
• Proven experience serving as technical lead or Professional-of-Record on substation projects.
• Extensive knowledge in substation design, including layouts, grounding systems, bus design, and major equipment integration.
• Experience collaborating with Canadian utilities is highly desirable.
• Comprehensive understanding of applicable codes and standards (Canadian Electrical Code [CSA C22.1], IEEE, IEC) and awareness of OH&S requirements.
• Strong leadership, mentoring, and team development skills.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the capacity to foster strong client relationships.
