Lead Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Design and maintain ETL workflows that extract, transform, and load data from legacy EHR systems into athenahealth environments.

• Develop and uphold functions for data analysis, validation, reconciliation, and issue resolution.

• Create Python and SQL scripts and utilities for data import, migration, and automation tasks.

• Collaborate with sales, product, operations, implementation, and engineering teams to establish source-to-target mappings, business rules, and migration specifications.

• Examine inbound and outbound data to pinpoint gaps, defects, and transformation challenges.

• Facilitate interoperability workflows adhering to HL7 and FHIR standards.

• Execute EHI export-related tasks and verify output for completeness and precision.

• Investigate data discrepancies, document observations, and assist in driving resolutions across teams.

• Maintain technical documentation detailing processes, dependencies, and validation procedures.

• Leverage AI to enhance productivity in data analysis and development tasks, implementing human review to ensure accuracy.

• Contribute to the enhancement of scalable and repeatable migration processes.

• Assist in testing and validation for data import and export operations.

• Engage in project planning, provide status updates, and participate in issue triage.

• Sustain reusable tools, templates, and migration standards.

• Aid in updating documentation and facilitating knowledge sharing.

• Identify opportunities to minimize manual effort through automation and optimized process design.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.

• Over 5 years of experience in data engineering, ETL, data migration, or a similar technical field.

• Proficient in ETL, SQL, and Python.

• Experience in supporting data imports, conversions, migrations, or related data movement activities.

• Knowledge of HL7 and FHIR interoperability standards.

• Preferred experience with EHI Export or associated healthcare data export workflows.

• Preferred experience working with healthcare data, healthcare technology, or implementation-focused teams.

• Ability to analyze data, identify problems, and clearly document technical results.

• Capability to work efficiently in a remote, cross-functional setting.

• Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills.
